We're helping feed seniors in Roanoke with a $25,000 donation from The James M. Cox Foundation to the Meals on Wheels program led by the Local Office on Aging (LOA). This is in addition to the $10,000 awarded on behalf of Cox Charities to Roanoke Meals on Wheels in March. The grant will support local homebound senior citizens during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The James M. Cox Foundation is the charitable arm of Cox Enterprises, the parent company of Cox Communications. In response to the growing strain on feeding the community, the foundation announced $25,000 grants to support people in need where we live and work. To date, the James M. Cox Foundation has donated $100,000 to Virginia nonprofits for COVID-19 relief.
“We’re proud to support Roanoke County Meals on Wheels,” said Cox Vice President of Government and Public Affairs Nneka Chiazor. “The LOA team is a bright spot in our region. It provides more than 550 meals a day to seniors who need our help now, more than ever.”
Our employees surprised LOA's CEO & President Ron Boyd and Board Chairwoman Freda Smith with the news over a Zoom call. Their reactions were priceless.
